Although the fifth and final preview build for Android N has been released as of earlier this morning and Android 7.0 Nougat is thought to be getting a roll out before the end of the Summer, Android Marshmallow is still a sought after piece of software as not all devices which were supposed to get the update bump have received it just yet. In the realm of tablets, one of the latest to get an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, specifically the model that users could pick up on T-Mobile’s network, as the carrier has just updated their support page to reflect the status of the tablet’s software update to show that Marshmallow was now available.
T-Mobile pushing this update out to their subscribers follows the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update that was sent out to users on AT&T’s network just last week which showed up around July 16th. Even further back, at the beginning of last month and on June 1st to be more specific, Verizon started sending out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to their version of the tablet, making T-Mobile the carrier of the three largest in the nation the last to get this software out to their subscribers, which isn’t usually the case.
Since this is an update moving the Galaxy Tab S2 forward from Android 5.1 Lollipop to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, there are a handful of things that users can expect to be a part of the update, including Doze Mode and App standby, both of which were designed to help users in extending their battery life enough to make a noticeable difference. Alongside these two battery saving features, Google Now on Tap is also going to be a part of the update. Of course, more control over permissions will also be included which will allow users to grant permissions to apps the first time they’re opened up in anticipation of use as opposed to immediately upon trying to download them. The update weighs in at about 1GB, 1,022MB to be precise, so it’s strongly recommended that users download the update while connected to a local WiFi network, and the tablet will have to be at 50 percent battery life at the very least before the download can begin.
