Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 was officially announced back on August 2nd at the beginning of this month and it officially goes on sale this Friday. Although the Galaxy Note 7 has a few notable new features among a handful of changes to the device series, one of the more important ones might be the Always On Display which allows you to view widgets that showcase important details without having to actually wake up the screen. Naturally this includes clock and calendar widgets, and in total there fourteen different clock and calendar widgets to choose from, 12 of them belonging to the clock category, all of them being new widgets which are going to be made available with the launch of this device.

In addition to being able to choose from various calendar and clock widgets, Samsung has made it possible to customize these widgets with different options such as colors and backgrounds. In the first image in the gallery below, you can see that the clock widget chosen has a box of colors that can be selected for the color of the clock, and the colors include a light gray as well as a handful of solid colors and a few gradients. There are also multiple background options, although it should be mentioned that these backgrounds only apply to the lower layer of the clock widget (and presumably the calendar widgets) and not the entire screen for the Always On Display, which makes sense as the AOD is meant to help save battery life, and applying colorful backgrounds to the whole screen might counteract that.

While these are reportedly only available via the Galaxy Note 7 for now, both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge that were launched earlier this year have Always On Displays as well, so there is a good chance that Samsung will see fit to push updates to those devices so that they get these new widgets to place on the screen. These new clock and calendar widgets will go quite nicely with the ones that are already available to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge owners, as well as the third-party apps that Samsung had announced will be compatible with the AOD on the Galaxy Note 7.
