If you own (or have ever owned) a OnePlus smartphone, then you will be used to the OnePlus way of doing things and the OnePlus smartphone experience which comes by way of OxygenOS. The latest OnePlus smartphone, the OnePlus 3 comes loaded with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with the very latest version arriving only a couple of weeks ago as OxygenOS 3.2.4 – a hotfix update for a number of issues that were being noted by OnePlus 3 owners. Well if you are a OnePlus 3 owner, it now seems as though you can take part in a new community build version of OxygenOS 3.5. The company has today announced this new community build and asked those who are interested in testing it out to download and self-install the update. So to be clear, at present there will be no OTA version of this particular update.

In terms of what is on offer, the changelog although provided is a little limited with the details noting “several” UI improvements, improvements to the camera software, “more robust” customization and settings features, as well as various “new and improved”OnePlus apps. Which are said to include an improved clock, weather and file manager app.

However, one of the reasons as to why this is a self-install update instead of an OTA update is that bugs and issues should not only be expected but are present. Some of those known issues which OnePlus confirm include general performance issues, a lack of supported languages for select OnePlus apps, an unstable System UI tuner and the need to re-register fingerprint scans for authentication. This in addition to what is probably the largest bug to watch out for – no current support for Android Pay. Of course, the reason for OnePlus to release this as a community build is to provide a way for users to give feedback on how it works and any additional and unknown bugs that could be lucking, as well as providing those same users with an early view of what is coming to OxygenOS. As such, if you would like to give this latest edition of OxygenOS a try on your OnePlus 3, you can find out all the details as well as the download link (and instructions) by heading over to the OnePlus forums (source link below).
