Less than a week after Sony introduced the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to the Xperia C5 Ultra Dual in certain regions, owners of the company’s 2015 mid-range device all over the world started reporting that they’ve received the new OS update. As things stand right now, it seems that the update is already available in most regions for all four variants of the Xperia C5 Ultra. More specifically, the E5553 and E5506 variants of Xperia C5 Ultra can download the Android build version 29.2.A.0.122 while the build version 29.2.B.0.122 is reserved for the E5533 and E5563 variants of Xperia C5 Ultra Dual.
Among other things, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow build that just rolled out for the aforementioned devices brings enhanced privacy control settings, better battery life, a new camera interface, and new Xperia Messaging and Direct Share features. Marshmallow is also packed with some cool little user interface tweaks like the floating toolbar. While the software update is not yet live in all parts of the world, the rollout should be complete by the end of the week. If your phone hasn’t yet notified you that the new Android version is available for download, there are two ways you can perform a manual software upgrade check. The simpler way is to navigate to your device’s Settings, select the “About Phone” option and then tap “Software Upgrade”. If you prefer to update your device over a USB connection with a PC or a Mac, you can also check whether the update is available in your territory by installing the Xperia Companion software that’s available for most contemporary Windows and OS X builds. After the program is installed, simply connect your phone to the computer and Xperia Companion will automatically check whether an Android update is available in your territory.
The Xperia C5 Ultra update arrives less than a week after Sony started updating its Xperia C4 and Xperia C4 Dual smartphones to Marshmallow. While all of these devices have been on the market for about a year now, consumers are already used to Sony taking its sweet time with rolling out Android updates for its smartphones, especially the non-flagship ones. In any case, it remains to be seen whether the Xperia C4 and Xperia C5 lineups will eventually also be updated with Android 7.0 Nougat.
