Just last week, Google launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel and Pixel XL. Both devices are essentially the same in terms of specs, save for the screen size, resolution and battery capacity. When Google launched the Pixel devices, the company put a big focus on the rear camera of these devices. According to the company, its Pixel smartphones have the best cameras compared to any other smartphone at the moment, having scored 89 in a comprehensive mobile camera test by DxOMark. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and the HTC 10 managed to score 88 in the same test. Like most flagship smartphones of 2016, Google’s Pixel smartphones have the ability to shoot videos in 4K, and while the Pixel device is known for taking pretty good images, how well does it do when it comes to 4K videos?
YouTuber Ron8it set out to find out and to be honest, the results are really stunning. Ron8it used a Pixel XL to shoot scenery with 4K resolution on the device. According to the YouTuber, the Pixel XL “blows the doors off of the iPhone 7 Plus when it comes to 4K video”. Ron8it then goes on to say that the image stabilization on the Pixel XL needs to be better. This is most likely due to the fact that Google opted for software-based stabilization method as opposed to hardware-based which should result in better image stabilization. On top of that, Ron8it mentions that the video was entirely shot on the Pixel XL, including the slow motion parts featured in the video. However, mild color correction was done to the footage. If you would like a recap on the specs of Google’s latest devices, read on. The Pixel and Pixel XL are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 System-on-Chip along with an Adreno 530 graphics chip. Memory wise, they come with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 128GB of internal storage. For optics, they are equipped with a 12-megapixel main camera coupled with an 8-megapixel front-facing sensor, and run Android 7.1 Nougat. The smaller Pixel packs a 5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a 2,770 mAh battery, while the Pixel XL carries a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 AMOLED panel, and a 3,450 mAh battery.
