Google announced its new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones at an event in San Francisco yesterday, revealing not only a fresh line of devices after having experimented with the Nexus line of phones and tablets, but also a set of new feature additions like the Google Assistant as well as the wonders of Android 7.1 (Nougat). However, probably the biggest limitation of Google’s new phones is that they aren’t waterproof and may not survive an accidental dunk in the pool, and this is where accessories come into play. They are known to offer ruggedness and waterproofing to phones along with adding to the looks department and not surprisingly, new case covers and other accessories for Google’s Pixel and Pixel XL phones are now making their presence felt in the market.

Speaking of which, well-known case maker LifeProof has announced new cases for the Pixel and Pixel XL phones named FRĒ which are waterproof cases specifically designed for the two new Google phones. As far as their capabilities are concerned, FRĒ cases will make the Pixel and Pixel XL phones water-proof and drop-proof to up to 6.6 feet as well as dirt-proof and snow-proof. A built-in scratch protector screen will also keep the display screens of the two phones scratch-proof, hopefully ensuring they stay looking as good as new. For Pixel and Pixel XL owners, these new cases will ensure that they won’t have to worry much about their phones’ IP53 ratings, even if its baffling to understand why Google chose not to make its phones as protected as other flagship phones.

According to LifeProof, their FRĒ cases will be the only waterproof cases available for the Pixel and Pixel XL and will be available to buy from Verizon Wireless, as well as through various retail locations. The cases will be covered under Verizon’s Total Water Protection Program (TWPP) which promises replacement of cases and devices if they suffer from water damage within a period of 12 months post registration. While the cases aren’t available for purchase as of now, LifeProof state they will be available soon enough and will be offering updates on their availability on its website from time to time.
