The Daydream View headset is now available for purchase, having officially launched last week with units also shipping out to those who pre-ordered the device. There were a number of applications already released for the Daydream platform at the time of the headset’s launch, and as of today this includes Hulu’s official application allowing those who own the headset to experience their favorite TV shows and movies in a virtual setting. While not all of the content within Hulu’s app will allow you to watch in an immersive 360-degree view, some of it supports this view type, and others will simply be viewable as if you were watching the content on a virtual TV screen as shown in the image up above.

Hulu’s changes in the what’s new section mentions that the Daydream support for the app is only compatible with Pixel devices, and this means the Pixel and Pixel XL. It’s worth mentioning here, though, that this is only due to the fact that there are no other Daydream compatible smartphones at the moment. Once more phones that work with Daydream are released, Hulu’s app, along with other Daydream VR apps will likely update accordingly to account for the devices.

The interface for Hulu in the Daydream VR format appears much like it does for the interface of the Daydream app, with a giant screen of sorts that sits in front of you and content selection handled by the controller that comes with the Daydream View headset. Hulu’s inclusion of support for the Daydream platform joins other video applications such as YouTube VR, which was just launched and made available in the Play Store as of November 9th. Of course, there will be other video streaming apps to support the Daydream platform in the future too. Since this is a feature that is only available through an application update, users who are wanting to test out how everything looks and performs first hand will need to make sure that their Hulu app has been updated to the latest version. The update should already be live for all users, but if it’s not it might simply take a little bit longer for it to show up.
