LeEco is one of the more notable China-based tech companies that have recently ventured out of its homeland to establish a global footprint. However, its holding company, Leishi Internet Information and Technology Corp, has been in all sorts of troubles of late, with its shares recently halted from trading at the Shenzhen Stock exchange. LeEco itself has been facing a severe cash crunch, and the company’s CEO, Mr. Jia Yueting, even admitted recently that its expansion efforts “have gone too far”. The company, however, hopes to tide over these rough times, and emerge as a stronger force in the global tech industry with not just its smartphone and smart TV portfolio, but also with its ambitious autonomous vehicles project.
However, smartphones continue to remain the pillar of LeEco’s hardware division for now, and recent reports have claimed that there are at least three new handsets in the pipeline from the Beijing-based company. While two of them, the LE X920 and the LE X850 will both apparently be premium phablets powered by the Snapdragon 820, there’s another one in the works (LE X622) that will reportedly be a more pocket-friendly device powered by the Mediatek Helio X20 (MT6797) SoC. Reports now suggest that the hardware specs of one of the premium devices may have been leaked on Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, along with a bunch of new hands-on images that seem to show off LeEco’s upcoming premium phablet in all its glory.
According to the report, the LeEco LE X920 will feature a 6.3-inch, WQHD display panel, which means a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The leak also seems to confirm that it will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 from Qualcomm and will come with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. The primary camera on the upcoming LeEco handset will likely have a 23-megapixel sensor, while the rear-facing secondary shooter will be an 8-megapixel unit. Other rumored details include a 3,400mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and apparently also a 3.5mm audio port to go with it. The device is also expected to come with Android Marshmallow pre-installed. Unlike the previous leaks though, this one seems pretty confident that the LE X920 will cost 1,388 Yuan ($200) in China. The price, though, seems way too low for a Snapdragon 820 smartphone with a giant QHD screen. So, for now at least, it’s probably better if we take these rumors with a pinch of salt.
