Just yesterday, the Plex Media Player and all of its premium features just became available to everyone free of charge. However, that’s not the only good news for fans of this media hub. Namely, Plex just announced that it’s expanding support of its Plex Cloud service. Initially introduced a couple of months ago, Plex Cloud was designed to serve as an alternative to NAS drives and dedicated media servers. In other words, this cloud-powered service allows users to stream their audio and video content wherever they are.

Now, when Plex debuted Plex Cloud back in September, this solution only featured Amazon Drive integration. In other words, you had to upload your shows, movies, and music to Amazon Drive in order to use Plex Cloud to stream it. However, as of today, Plex Cloud also supports Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. Naturally, this expanded support is great news for consumers seeing how not everyone is paying $60 per year for unlimited Amazon Drive storage while Amazon Prime subscribers only get 5GB of server space. So, having more options means that it’s less likely people will have to switch their cloud service providers or start paying for another one just to use Plex Cloud.

Interestingly enough, this expanded support was prompted by the fact that Plex developers had technical issues with Amazon Drive integration. The Plex Media Player will sometimes stop syncing with Amazon Drive. While developers are hard at work trying to fix this issue, they’re still not sure what’s causing it due to its random frequency of occurrences. In the meantime, Plex decided to expand Plex Cloud support to Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive so that people can circumvent these issues. Fortunately, that isn’t to say this new integration will be revoked once Plex fixes the issues with Amazon Drive support.

Initial reports from Plex Cloud users state that the new support is working just as intended. Note that this service is still officially in beta, so if you want to try it out, you’ll have to apply for an invitation or procure one yourself. Also, Plex Cloud is limited to Plex Pass subscribers who are paying $5 per month for the privilege of using it.
