Back on December 2nd the General Mobile 4G Android One device began to receive the software update to Android 7.1.1, which contained the December security patch along with the software. At the time Google had not yet posted the Factory Images or OTA Images for the update, but that changed earlier this morning as Google made them available not too long ago. Now, it looks like Verizon may be starting to roll this new software out to owners of the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, if the update details on Verizon’s device support page for the Pixel phones is anything to go by.
While the details themselves don’t explicitly state that Android 7.1.1 is included, it’s the Software Version Build Number which seems to suggest that Android 7.1.1 is being rolled out to Verizon Pixel and Pixel XL phones, as the number matches up with that of the OTA Images and Factory Images. Also worth noting is that this update does mention that it includes the latest Android security patches, which should be December now, and this was included in the Android 7.1.1 update to the General Mobile 4G as was stated above.
Among the security patch, the update also includes a handful of other changes and improvements. Verizon lists that it’s now possible for their subscribers to choose their preference for voice calls are placed when traveling internationally, as they’re now allowed the option to choose cellular or Wi-Fi as their preferred option for international roaming. As for the fixes, among the list of them seem to be a few bugs that were centered around voicemail. While not all user were likely experiencing the same issue, some Pixel and Pixel XL owners on the network were having problems with the voicemail playback coming to a stop if the screen timed out while audio was connected to a Bluetooth headset. Another voicemail-related bug was keeping the voicemail icon from appearing, which could understandably make it challenging for someone to know if a voicemail was left following a missed or rejected call. The last voicemail issue had to do with visual voicemail, where some users weren’t able to retrieve their visual voicemail while some were even getting a 9999 error. After installing this update these bugs and the others should be fixed. Verizon doesn’t list a time frame for the roll out, so not all subscribers are guaranteed to get it today, but you can always check to see if it’s available manually from the settings menu.
