Canadian wireless carriers Telus, Videotron and Freedom started rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat to the HTC One M9 earlier this week, and they are now joined by Bell. According to a post on Bell Canada’s HTC One M9 support pages, the carrier has now started rolling out the much-awaited update to HTC’s 2015 flagship. That being the case, the only major Canadian carrier that is yet to start the Android Nougat rollout for the One M9 is Rogers. A post on the Rogers website says that the update is “coming soon” but doesn’t go into any further details on the matter. Meanwhile, the incoming update from Bell ships with the firmware version 4.19.666.1 and includes some unspecified security patches.

Android 7.0 Nougat is only an incremental upgrade over its predecessor, but it does boast a few nifty little features such as native multi-window support, bundled notifications, and an improved implementation of Doze that was originally introduced by Google in Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It also brings a whole lot of new emojis and a Data Saver mode that will restrict specific apps from using data in the background. The Nougat update was already rolled out by HTC to unlocked models of the One M9 last month, a few weeks after the unlocked variant of the HTC One M10 received the update in the U.S. The Taiwanese company also promised to update the One A9 to Android Nougat at some stage in the near future, although devices released prior to the One M9 will not officially receive the update.

The HTC One M9 was released by the Taiwanese tech company in early 2015 with Android 5.0 Lollipop on board. It received the Marshmallow update last year, which brought a whole host of new features to the device, including Google Now on Tap. The One M9 is also one of the few HTC devices that receive security patches on a regular basis. Meanwhile, the major U.S. carriers are yet to release Android Nougat for the One M9 and it remains to be seen when they will finally get around to updating HTC’s 2015 flagship to the latest major version of Android.
