Google Docs and Sheets are both in the process of receiving an update this week. However, from the Android perspective, only the update to Google Docs is going to be of concern as the Google Sheets update only applies to iOS devices. The Google Docs update however, brings with it a number of new abilities to make processing documents on the fly, a little easier.

In terms of those new features, Google Docs now allows Android users to either insert or edit headers and footers within a Google Docs document. To make use of this feature, users simply need to open a document in Google Docs, tap the ‘Edit’ icon, followed by the ‘More’ icon in the top right corner. Following which, turning on the ‘Print Layout’ mode. Once Print Layout is enabled, the user can either tap the header or the footer and add the required text.

Another notable new feature is that images in Google Doc documents are now far more customizable, as following the update users can resize, move and/or rotate images from their Android devices. Making use of this feature is largely the same as the header and footer editing, so users simply need to open a document, tap the ‘More’ icon in the top right corner and turn on ‘Print Layout’. Once here, simply tap the image that needs to be adjusted and then use the ‘squares’ to resize or the ‘circle’ to rotate. The image below highlights how the square and circle prompts are shown when in print layout mode and when looking to resize or rotate images. In addition, the update also includes the ability to change text wrapper and border styles for images. As well as the ability to drag and drop text.

In terms of the update, a G Suite blog on the matter has confirmed that the features are already rolling out so the update should arrive on Android devices fairly soon. Although the rolling out is a ‘gradual rollout’ which does mean that it could take a few days before the features show up on any particular Android device.
