An unannounced Samsung device — possibly the Galaxy Xcover 4 — has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA) bearing the model number SM-G390F and revealing that it will feature dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The WFA certification also reveals that the upcoming device will support Wi-Fi Direct and run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. While there’s no more info about the upcoming handset at this point in time, some recent rumors seemingly suggest that this might be the Galaxy Xcover 4, which would make it Samsung’s next-generation rugged, weatherproof smartphone. If that is indeed the case, then it will replace the Galaxy Xcover 3 (Value Edition) which bears the model number SM-G389F and was released last year as an upgrade over the original Galaxy Xcover 3 (SM-G388F) that launched back in 2015.

While the hardware spec sheet of the upcoming smartphone is still under wraps, the previous Galaxy Xcover model shipped with an IP67 rating, meaning the device was water-resistant up to the depth of one meter for as long as 30 minutes. The device is also MIL-STD-810G certified, which is a U.S. military standard that indicates resistance to salinity, humidity, vibration, dust, solar radiation, and thermal shock. It remains to be seen whether the upcoming device will also retain those features, but seeing as the whole point of the Galaxy Xcover series is to offer a smartphone that isn’t as fragile as the mainstream ones, it seems likely that the Galaxy Xcover 4 will boast similar features. There’s still no word on when the company might choose to launch this particular device, but more information will hopefully follow soon.

Samsung is also currently believed to be working on its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8. Meanwhile, even as Samsung continues to work on its next-generation flagship, the company has released quite a few mid-rangers in the global market over the past few weeks. That includes devices like the Galaxy C9 Pro which was recently introduced in India after having been launched in China last year. The company is also expected to launch the Galaxy C7 Pro and the Galaxy C5 Pro mid-rangers in the near future.
