Chinese tech company Hisense has launched a new crowd-sourced Android smartphone called the Hisense A2. The device is a follow-up to last year’s Hisense A1, and comes with a market price of 2,999 Yuan ($435). The smartphone was earlier listed on the website of the country’s electronics certification agency, TENAA, revealing quite a few key details, but now that it has been listed for sale, the official hardware specs are finally out in the open. The Hisense A2 is a dual-display smartphone, much like the Yotaphone devices launched by the eponymous Russian manufacturer. The smartphone features a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED panel as its primary display with 2.5D curve glass on top. There’s also a 5.2-inch E-ink qHD (960 x 540) display that can be found on the back. The E-ink panel comes with backlighting, which should help readability in dimly-lit areas.
Taking a look at some of the other key hardware features of the Hisense A2, the device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, which comes with an integrated 1.4GHz octa-core CPU and the Adreno 505 GPU. It packs 4GB of RAM and a whopping 128GB of built-in storage, but there’s also a microSD card slot that supports expansion by up to 128GB. In terms of imaging options, the Hisense A2 sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens and 75-degree wide angle view. The camera can also record 1080p videos at 30fps. The front-facing selfie-cam, meanwhile, comes with a relatively humble 5-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture and an 84-degree wide angle lens, which should be good enough for capturing selfies, etc.
In terms of connectivity, the Hisense A2 supports 4G LTE with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) with dual-SIM dual-standby feature. The device can be used on all three major Chinese carriers – China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom. This smartphone also includes a fingerprint sensor and carries a 3,090 mAh battery. The handset also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and A-GPS. It also comes with a 3.5mm audio port, which has been losing favor with manufacturers of late. The device also has USB OTG support, as well as a USB Type-C port. As is the case with many Chinese smartphones, the Hisense A2 also ships with an IR Blaster that can be used to control televisions, set-top-boxes, air-conditioners etc.
