When it comes to MWC 2017, one of the biggest announcements took place a short time ago when LG finally introduced their next-in-line G-series smartphone, the LG G6. This is of course, a follow-on from last year’s LG G5 which looked to drastically change the design of the G-Series and in a similar fashion, the LG G6 has looked to drastically change its design compared to the LG G5. Which has a result in a number of specific feature changes and none more so than in the battery department.

For instance, due to the LG G5’s modular nature, battery life was not of a particularly concern, as you could always swap out the battery or add a module which could help to prolong the battery life even more. With the LG G6 turning its back on modules, LG has looked to offset any battery issues by significantly increasing the battery capacity on offer. As a result, the LG G6 comes with a 3,300mAh battery. In addition to this, the LG G6 also comes with Quick Charge 3.0 support to offer increased charging speeds. According to LG, the G6 is able to regain a 50-percent charge in as little as 35 minutes. Add to that, LG has also now gone down the wireless charging route and so the LG G6 can take advantage of various wireless charging technologies. In fact, LG has confirmed that the G6 comes with support for both the Power Matters Alliance (PMA) and the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) wireless charging standards, which seems to be a common move by the big-name manufacturers nowadays with wireless charging supported devices. In either case, the LG G6 comes with support for both.

That said, after the Galaxy Note 7 recall, battery stats are no longer about racing to an mAh peak or to the fastest charge possible. Instead, battery safety has now become a selling point and one which LG has made clear with this new smartphone. First up, the LG G6 comes equipped with a flexible battery. A point which should mean that the battery is a little more accommodating within the smartphone and less likely to run into issues. In addition, LG confirmed that heat pipes have also been included to cover the processor and ensure heat disperses properly. While not necessarily something which adds to the battery life, it is a feature which in general is designed to keep the phone running cooler and avoid any potentially-dangerous heat-related mishaps, battery or otherwise.
