Speaking with the South Korean media on the sidelines of the ongoing MWC trade show in the Spanish city of Barcelona on Sunday, the head of LG’s mobile division, Mr. Cho Juno, revealed that the company’s latest flagship smartphone, the LG G6, will be launched in the South Korean market on March 10. As for its pricing, the handset will come with a price-tag of 899,800 won, which is just under $800 in U.S. currency ($796.85 according to the latest exchange rates). The device was unveiled yesterday by the South Korean consumer electronics giant during its press conference at the MWC 2017, but the company at that stage had not announced any details about either the launch date or the pricing.
The LG G6 features a 5.7-inch FullVision Quad HD+ (2880 x 1440) display panel that comes with an unusual 18:9 aspect ratio, which is a departure from the 16:9 aspect ratio that’s found on most smartphones these days. According to LG, the phone has a more compact form-factor than many other devices that come with similar-sized screens. The LG G6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, and is equipped with 4GB of RAM alongside either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage, depending on the market. The device also has Android 7.0 Nougat pre-installed, and carries a 3,300mAh non-removable battery in a departure from its predecessor, the modular LG G5, which came with an user-replaceable 2,800mAh battery. The latest premium smartphone from LG also sports a dual 13-megapixel rear-facing camera module, accompanied by a dual-LED flash.
While LG Electronics is yet to officially announce availability details of its latest premium smartphone in the U.S., the four largest carriers in the country have all confirmed that they will make the device available on their respective networks in the coming weeks. While AT&T has only said that the device will be “coming soon” without giving any specific ETA, Verizon and T-Mobile have both said that the smartphone will be available for purchase “this spring”. None of the carriers have said anything officially about the phone’s pricing, though. Meanwhile, British carrier Vodafone has also announced that it will sell the device in the U.K. Although, just like its American counterparts, the company has also been tight-lipped about the phone’s pricing and availability details.
