A new Samsung smartphone bearing model number SM-J727P has been certified by the FCC. The device seems to be a variant of the SM-J727, which was certified by the U.S. communications regulator last month and is expected to be launched as the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) as an upgrade over the Galaxy J7 (2016) that was launched by Samsung last year. Meanwhile, the FCC documentation reveals that the application for certification was submitted on December 27th and the phone was tested on January 12 and 13. The device has an FCC ID of A3LSMJ727P but as is very often the case, the FCC documentation reveals very little about the actual hardware specifications of the upcoming device.

It is important to note here that this is not the first time the Galaxy SM-J727P has popped up on the web. Over the past few weeks, the device has been spotted on various websites, possibly revealing some of its key hardware specifications. Just last month, it was listed on benchmarking site Geekbench, while back in December, it was imported into India for testing purposes, as was revealed by the country’s import and export tracking database, Zauba. In fact, the handset also received its Wi-Fi certification late last year, so it is very likely that Samsung’s next affordable handset isn’t too far away from an official release. In fact, the Galaxy J7 (2017) isn’t the only J-series device Samsung has in its pipelines right now. The Galaxy J3 (2017) recently got its Wi-Fi certification as well, so that particular device may also be released at some stage in the near future.

As for the Galaxy J7 (2017), it is expected to be a mid-range smartphone from the South Korean company. According to rumors, it will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p display and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC, with 2GB of RAM for company. Imaging options will reportedly include a 13-megapixel primary camera on the back and a 5-megapixel selfie-cam on the front. The Galaxy J7 (2017) is also expected to ship with a fingerprint scanner and carry a 3,000mAh battery. On the software side of things, the upcoming device is expected to ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box.
