A new LG smartphone bearing the model number LGE LG-H871 has appeared on benchmarking site Geekbench. Speculations seem to suggest that it could very well be the upcoming LG G6 or one of its many variants that have been rumored in recent times. As per the Geekbench database, the LG-H871 is powered by the Snapdragon 820 (MSM8996) SoC, which has an integrated quad-core 64-bit CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.19GHz. The device also has 4GB of RAM and runs Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. In terms of performance, the LG-H871 has a single-core score of 1736 and a multi-core score of 4002, both of which are in the ballpark for devices powered by the Snapdragon 820.

It is interesting that a Snapdragon 820-powered LG device has now popped up on Geekbench, just days after reports coming out of South Korea claimed that the company has dropped the idea of shipping its next-generation flagship with the Snapdragon 835 on board. According to that report, LG’s fellow South Korean rival, Samsung, has apparently reserved the initial few batches of the Snapdragon 835 for its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone. This being the case, the report suggested that the LG G6 will actually ship with the Snapdragon 821 instead. If that report is anything to go by, then this particular device on Geekbench may very well be a ‘Lite’ version of the LG G6. The company was recently reported to have applied for trademarks on a number of different smartphone names, all of which include the “G6” moniker.

Meanwhile, apart from ‘G6 Lite’, some of the other names that LG Electronics is looking to get as trademarks include the G6 Compact, G6 Hybrid, G6 Prix, G6 Forte, G6 Young, G6 Sense and G6 Fit. It will be interesting to see if LG will actually launch all those iterations of its flagship handset this year, but it wouldn’t be a bolt from the blue either if that were to indeed happen. However, even though the LG G6 is expected to be unveiled at the MWC trade show later this month at Barcelona, there’s no word on when the other devices in the G6 lineup will be made official.
