A new Samsung smartphone bearing model number SM-J530FM/DS has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance. According to speculations in the online tech media, Samsung will eventually market the device as the Galaxy J5 (2017), although the South Korean company is yet to give any indications about its plans regarding the matter. As for the listing itself, it doesn’t really reveal any of the key hardware specs of the upcoming handset, but does mention that the device will have support for dual-band Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac (2.4GHz and 5GHz). The listing also reveals that the handset will support Wi-Fi Direct and, will come with Android 6.0 Marshmallow pre-installed. It will be interesting to see when Samsung will announce this handset, but seeing as the Galaxy J5 (2016) was unveiled last March, it probably won’t be too long before this one is made official.
While Samsung has been working hard on its much-anticipated Galaxy S8 lineup, the company is also believed to be prepping a whole gamut of mid-range devices meant for the prepaid market. Having launched quite a few Galaxy A-series handsets in countries like India and China over the past few weeks, the South Korean tech giant is now apparently turning its attention towards the even more affordable Galaxy J line, which was originally introduced back in 2015. While the Galaxy J5 devices are typically positioned in the lower mid-range, several leaks over the past few weeks have indicated that the entry-level Galaxy J3 (2017) and upper mid-range Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) are also in the works.
While the hardware specs of the Galaxy J5 (2017) is still under the wraps, rumors seem to suggest that this year’s Galaxy J3 model will ship with a 5-inch 720p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a 2,600mAh battery. Mind you, these are very early rumors, so it will be interesting to see how much of it holds up at the end. Meanwhile, the Galaxy J7 (2017) will reportedly come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chip and 3GB of RAM. Sadly though, there’s no real info right now on when Samsung will unveil any one of these handsets.
