A new Nokia smartphone bearing the model number TA-1038 has been certified by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). According to recent rumors, HMD Global will eventually market this device as the entry-level Nokia 3, although the Finnish company is yet to give any indications about its plans regarding the upcoming launch of the smartphone. The device and its more powerful counterparts — the Nokia 6 and the Nokia 5 — are expected to be launched in the coming weeks in China, India, the European Union, and other markets. However, now that the device is has been certified by the FCC, it is also expected to see a U.S. launch at some stage in the not too distant future.

As for the listing on the FCC website, it doesn’t really reveal any of the key hardware specs of the upcoming handset, but with the device already unveiled officially at the MWC trade show in Barcelona earlier this year, most of the key hardware specs are already public knowledge. The Nokia 3 will be an entry-level smartphone, featuring a 5-inch 720p display panel. The device will be powered by the Mediatek MT6737 SoC that comes with a quad-core 1.4GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and the ARM Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. The handset will have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage that can be expanded by the way of a microSD card of up to 256GB in capacity.

Imaging options on the upcoming Nokia 3 will include an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture, accompanied by an LED flash. The front-facing selfie cam will also be an 8-megapixel unit with the exact same aperture size. The device will support 4G VoLTE, carry a 2,650mAh battery, support microUSB v2.0, and have a whole host of sensors, including an accelerometer, a gyroscope, a proximity sensor, and a magnetometer (e-compass). On the software side of things, the Nokia 3 will launch with Android 7.0 Nougat running out of the box. The latest Nokia-branded Android smartphones from HMD Global are all scheduled for a global launch in Q2 2017, so it will be interesting to see how these devices will be received by the media and the general public.
