According to a tweet by Motorola India earlier today, the Moto G5 Plus will be available for purchase in the country from the 15th of March, exclusively on leading e-commerce portal, Flipkart. There is no mention, however, of the Moto G5, so it will be interesting to see if the smaller device will also be put up for sale on the same day. Lenovo had earlier sent out media invites for the India launch of the Moto G5 Plus, but there was no mention of the Moto G5 back then either. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were launched exclusively on Amazon last year, so Lenovo’s decision to go with Flipkart this time around certainly represents a break with tradition.

As a refresher, Chinese tech giant Lenovo, the parent company of Motorola Mobility, launched the two new Moto-branded mid-range smartphones at the Mobile World Congress tech show in Barcelona last week. The devices are an upgrade over the fourth-generation Moto G devices, and get a fresh new look with upgraded hardware. While the two devices look relatively similar to each other, they do have quite a few differences when it comes to their hardware specifications. While the standard-issue Moto G5 features a 5-inch display panel, the more expensive Moto G5 Plus comes with a larger 5.2-inch screen. Both displays, however, have the same 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution, so at least in theory, the cheaper Moto G5 actually has a sharper display with more dots-per-inch (dpi).

As for the rest of the specs, while the Moto G5 is powered by the Snapdragon 430, the Moto G5 Plus comes with the more capable Snapdragon 625 under the hood. While the former will be offered with just the 2GB or 3GB of RAM, the latter will also have a 4GB model that will be offered only in some regions. Internal storage will be restricted to just 16GB or 32GB on the former, while the latter will come with 32GB and 64GB options. Both devices will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box, but the smaller handset will carry a 2,800mAh battery, while its stable-mate will draw power from a 3,000mAh unit. Meanwhile, much like many of the other smartphones announced at the MWC 2017 last week, both Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus will ship with Google Assistant, as was announced by the Lenovo-owned brand in a blog post published recently.
