Google Drive’s latest improvements cater to enterprise users. As part of Google’s ongoing initiative to make tools for businesses both large and small as easy and safe to use as possible, Google Drive is getting some new tools and a handful of improvements that will let companies take advantage of the cloud storage service with confidence. This includes Team Drives, Google Vault for Drive, easy migration to Drive via AppBridge, and Drive File Stream. All of these tools enhance Google Drive to make it a more secure offering for enterprise users so that they can share files throughout the teams of employees on staff while knowing that what is being shared is safe and can be managed by admins properly and more conveniently.
When it comes to Team Drives, Google initially announced this feature at the end of last year, but at the time it was only available in the form of early access, which companies had to apply for. Now, it’s simply a part of Google Drive for enterprise users and you won’t need early access. With Team Drives admins have a greater level of control over what flows where and who has access. It’s simple to add new members to any Drive shared folder and manage where files and folders are going, especially in the event that a team member leaves and you no longer want them having access.
Another feature which isn’t exactly new but it is gaining new capabilities is Google Vault for Drive. Here Google has made it so that automation comes into play. While Admins could already manage files across Drives both for employees and teams, now Google Vault for Drive will let them do so with a kind of less hands-on approach. If the company needs certain files it’s possible for admins to configure a retention policy to keep those files while Google Vault will get rid of the stuff that isn’t needed. What’s more is that Google is making this particular new change available to all G Suite Education, Business, and Enterprise customer as of today. For companies who aren’t yet using Google Drive for their cloud storage needs, Google’s acquisition of AppBridge and the inclusion of the new AppBridge tool will make the process of migrating things over to Google Drive a simple one.
AppBridge can essentially import your files and permissions without much effort compared to before, and with ease of use things become a little more efficient which can mean time saved, and time saved is money earned when it comes this sort of thing. Another new change, Drive File Stream, will come in handy for those who are weary of how much space they have left on their machines as it basically lets you stream the files you need access to. This is currently only available in an Early Adopter Program but should be rolling out as standard in the future. With this feature access to needed files is extremely fast and if you end up needing to keep something you can download it for offline use, as you can do with many other Google services. If your company already uses Google Drive, the experience just got a lot better thanks to these new tools.
