Lava Mobiles, one of the original partners for Google’s ill-fated Android One venture, has launched a couple of new smartphones in India earlier today. The Lava Z25 and Lava Z10 are both mid-range handsets, and are targeted at social media users who are always on the lookout for devices with high-quality front-facing cameras. While the former has already occupied its pride of place as the most expensive device in Lava’s lineup with a price-tag of Rs. 18,000 (around $270), the latter is even more pocket-friendly, and has an asking price of just Rs. 11,500 (around $175). Both devices support 4G VoLTE, have fingerprint scanners, and will be available for purchase from tomorrow. While the former will be offered in Champagne Gold and Grey, the latter will apparently be sold only in Gold; at least, initially.

Taking a quick look at the two devices, the Z25 is the relatively more well-spec’d of the two, and features a 5.5-inch 720p display with 2.5D curved glass on top. The device is powered by the MediaTek MT6750 SoC, which comes with a 1.51GHz octa-core CPU and the Mali T-860 GPU. The phone also has 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card. The Lava Z25 carries a 3,020mAh battery and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the form of Star OS 3.3, which happens to be Lava’s very own proprietary take on Android. Imaging options on the handset include a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with Sony IMX258 sensor, f/2.0 aperture and PDAF, while the 8-megapixel front-facing shooter with 5P Largan lens also comes with a similar aperture.

As for the Lava Z10, the device is decidedly entry-level, and features a 5-inch 720p display with 2.5D curved glass on top. The handset is powered by the MediaTek MT6735 SoC, which comes with a 64-bit quad-core CPU alongside the ARM Mali T-720 MP4 GPU. There’s only 2GB of RAM and just the 16GB of internal storage, but users will be able to expand that with a microSD card, thanks to the presence of an expansion slot. Much like its more expensive stable-mate, the Lava Z10 also runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box with Star OS 3.3, but carries a smaller 2,620mAh battery to keep the lights on. In terms of the cameras, the device has an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter, while the front-facing selfie-cam comes with a 5-megapixel sensor.
