Verizon Wireless is rolling out the latest Android Security Update to the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid, the two premium Moto devices that were launched last year by Chinese tech giant Lenovo. According to the carrier, the update comes with build number NCLS25.86-11-4-6 and includes not just the March 2017 security patches, but also various bug fixes that will optimize device performance and resolve some known issues. The incoming software, however, isn’t expected to bring any new feature to the two handsets that have already received the Android 7.0 Nougat update last December, having been launched with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow earlier in the year. The updates are available as over-the-air (OTA) downloads, but Verizon is yet to release detailed changelogs for either device.
The incoming software may not bring any new feature to either handset, but the updates are expected to make them more secure, so they’re still pretty important and should be installed as soon as they become available. As is the case with most software updates, this one is being rolled out in batches and it may take a little while for you to get the update notification on your handset. You may check for the availability of the update manually by heading over to the ‘Settings’ menu on your device, tapping ‘About Phone’ and choosing ‘Software Updates.’ From there, selecting the ‘Check for Updates’ option should reveal whether this latest update is available for your device just yet.
Lenovo introduced the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid last year in the U.S. exclusively on the nation’s largest carrier, Verizon. The two devices are also available internationally, but without the Droid moniker. Although both the Moto Z Droid and the Moto Z Force Droid come with very similar hardware, they do have a few notable differences. The two phablets differ in the camera department, with the Moto Z Droid featuring a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, while the Z Force Droid sports a 21-megapixel primary camera. However, the biggest selling point of the Moto Z Force Droid is the extremely durable ‘ShatterShield’ display that was first seen on the Droid Turbo 2 in 2015.
