Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have longer lasting and safer batteries, a feature that many consumers would have likely come to expect after the issues from last year’s Galaxy Note 7. While Samsung is starting to put that series of incidents behind them with the announcement of their brand new flagship devices, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t still taking the utmost care when designing the phone around the battery and making sure that it’s safe to use. The batteries in the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus go through Samsung’s new 8-point battery safety check to ensure that there aren’t any safety issues. More than that though, the batteries carry a large capacity to help them last longer than the previous Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge.

The Galaxy S8 comes with a 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy S8 Plus comes with a battery that holds a 3,500mAh capacity, which is certainly higher than both of their predecessors. This paired with Samsung’s battery optimizing software like the power saving mode and ultra power saving mode will make it so that users have an easy time using their phone throughout the day without having to worry about charging the device up. Samsung’s two new phones are also coming powered with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, at least in the U.S., and that means that they’ll be supporting the latest Quick Charge technology for a fast top up when needed. With Quick Charge 4 the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will be able to charge up to near full in no time at all, and if you aren’t necessarily worried about the absolute fastest charge, both phones can also charge up wirelessly thanks to the support for inductive charging.

Both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus use USB Type-C for the charging port which is going to help a lot for the charging speed, and while not necessarily related to the speed at all, having USB Type-C certainly makes it easier to charge the device as you can plug the cable in either way without having to worry about whether or not the cable will fit. Both flagships from Samsung last year had pretty decent battery life even with smaller batteries, so the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus should have no trouble at all lasting throughout the day.
