A new Samsung smartphone bearing model number SM-Z400F/DS has been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA). According to media speculations, the device will be the fourth-generation Tizen-based Z-series handset from the South Korean consumer electronics giant, and will be marketed as the Samsung Z4. The device has already received its seal of approval from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), and if the ‘DS’ in its model number is anything to go by, Samsung is definitely planning to launch a dual-SIM version of it going forward. As is the case with listings on the WFA website, it doesn’t really give away any of the key hardware specs of the upcoming handset, but does reveal that the device will have support for Wi-Fi b/g/n (2.4GHz). The listing also reveals that the handset will support Wi-Fi Direct.

According to the FCC listing, the Samsung Z4 will have a 2,050mAh battery and ship with Tizen 3.0 pre-installed, while connectivity options will apparently include 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and GPS. The FCC website also seems to reveal that the device will be 132.9mm in length and 69.2mm in width. While there’s not a lot more info to go on at the moment, more will probably be known about the device in the coming days. It will be interesting to see when Samsung will announce this handset, but its predecessor, the Samsung Z3, was introduced as far back as in October 2015, so it has already been about a year and a half since the last Tizen-powered handset was officially launched by the company.

It is important to note here that while Android is the operating system of choice for most of Samsung’s popular smartphones and tablets, the company prefers to use Tizen instead of Android Wear on its Gear line of premium smartwatches. In fact, the only true Android Wear-based smartwatch from the company is the Gear Live that was launched way back in 2014. While Android Wear continues to struggle against the Apple Watch, its smartphone counterpart remains the dominant operating system worldwide, holding around 80% of the global market in its segment. However, that doesn’t seem to have deterred Samsung in its quest to find a toehold for Tizen in the smartphone market, seeing as it continues to launch Tizen devices in a market that’s completely dominated by Android and iOS.
