Caseology has been known for putting out some rather high-end cases, at pretty decent prices. Not only do these cases look and feel high-end, but they also provide some interesting patterns, and that is definitely the case with the Parallax case from Caseology for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. We’ve been using the Parallax Case on the Galaxy S8 for a few days now, and we absolutely love the look and feel on 2017’s best looking smartphone (so far), so let’s chat about it a bit.
First up, the colors. Caseology offers the Parallax in a slew of colors. These include black, burgundy and orchid gray. We have the burgundy color here, and it looks incredible on the arctic silver Galaxy S8 that we have in our possession. The case does come in two parts. There is the TPU case, which adds some grip to the device, but then there is also the hard bumper which allows you to use the Galaxy S8 with peace of mind that it won’t break when dropped. And that’s because that bumper is impact resistant. So while the bumper may shatter, the Galaxy S8 won’t. And let’s face it, it’s much easier to replace a case than a $750 Galaxy S8.
As far as coverage goes, it does protect the majority of that curved display. It does protect the left and right sides, but not completely. So if you do drop it, there is a small chance that the display may take a hit. With the sides being protected, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to still use the curved display features. Quite the contrary. We’ve been able to use the Galaxy S8 to its full potential while using this case, which is good for users that do prefer those edge features. Now when it comes to other cut outs on the Galaxy S8’s Parallax case, there is one on the back for the camera, flash and fingerprint sensor module. There is also four separate ones on the bottom for the microphone, speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and the USB-C port. Now the USB-C and headphone jack cutouts are a but wider, and that’s so that you can actually use them. There’s also one on the top for the other microphone.
The back of the Parallax has a geometric pattern (which Caseology says is “award-winning”). Not only does this pattern look pretty nice, it also adds a bit of grip to the back of the Galaxy S8. Definitely important since the Galaxy S8 is already pretty slippery to begin with. It’ll make it easier to hold onto the device, as you definitely don’t want to drop it. The buttons on the left and right sides are not cut out, but they do have a different pattern making it easier to figure out where they are, without looking at them. The buttons are a bit stubborn at first, but it’s easy to get them a bit softer after using the case a bit. There’s no real issues with pressing them, but you’ll likely still press that Bixby button by mistake.
So what’s the verdict? Well the Caseology Parallax case is a great case for the Galaxy S8. Caseology is selling these for $13.99 for both the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, at that price, it’s hard to say no to these cases. Seeing as others from Speck, BodyGuardz and more are upwards of $40 each. The Parallax case checks all of the boxes, basically. It’s not a thin case, it does add a bit of bulk to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, but it doesn’t make the smartphones all that much heavier, which is also a good thing.
