It was reported a couple of days ago that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagship will launch in China on May 25, and it seems like that report was a bit off, as the two devices have just been announced in the country. Samsung has officially announced the two phones for the Chinese smartphone market, and the launch event took place in Beijing, as expected. Now, in addition to the regular 4GB RAM variants of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, which are available pretty much everywhere else, Samsung also introduced a 6GB RAM variant of the Galaxy S8 Plus for the Chinese market. It is worth noting that the 6GB RAM model was also released in South Korea as well.
That being said, the standard variants of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are priced at 5,688 Yuan ($825) and 6,188 Yuan ($898), respectively. These two variants are coming with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, while they will be available in Black, Gray and Gold color variants. The 6GB RAM Galaxy S8 Plus model is also known as the ‘Emperor Edition’ of the Galaxy S8 Plus, and it sports 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native storage, while it costs 6,988 Yuan ($1,014). Those of you who are planning to get the ‘Emperor Edition’ of the Galaxy S8 Plus should know that it will be available in a Black color variant only. As you’ve probably already noticed, the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus are considerably more expensive in China than they are in the US, as the two phones cost around $720 and $840 in the US, respectively. Now, on top of announcing all those variants of the Galaxy S8, Samsung also introduced an exclusive premium service which consists of a 6-month discount for replacing a display on either of these two phones, just in case you drop the phone and break the display. In addition to that, you’re also getting 12 months of free battery testing and optimization, an 18-month discount (50%) on battery replacement services, an exclusive 24-hour hotline and instant access over at Samsung’s service centers, which is a nice perk, for sure.
These two smartphones are made out of metal and glass, and both of them are fueled by the Exynos 8895 64-bit octa-core SoC in China. Both devices ship with a 12-megapixel rear-facing shooter, an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, while you’ll be able to find Samsung’s custom UI on top of it. The Galaxy S8 sports a 5.8-inch display, while the Galaxy S8 Plus ships with a 6.2-inch panel. Both of those display come with a 2960 x 1440 resolution, and we’re looking at Super AMOLED panels here.
