OnePlus has confirmed the Snapdragon 835 processor for the OnePlus 5, combining its latest upcoming flagship device with the latest high-end processor on the market for mobile devices. That being said, this is the only piece of information in regards to hardware that OnePlus has opened up about officially so far, so anything else at this point is still just considered a rumor no matter how logical and feasible it may seem. OnePlus always tends to use the best of the best when it comes to hardware in their flagship smartphones though, as has been the case with their previous models, so chances are that once they confirm the rest of the hardware, users won’t be disappointed.

With the processor now confirmed, that also means the OnePlus 5 will have an Adreno 540 GPU for the graphics processing, which means that it’ll be more than capable of handling the most graphically demanding games on mobile in addition to handling any other demanding applications that require a lot of mobile computing power. Although OnePlus hasn’t shared any more details about the device hardware, it has shared some information about its development process of the OnePlus 5 which included meeting its goal of providing consumers with a smartphone that could deliver “flawlessly smooth performance.”

For starters, OnePlus says that it wanted to improve touch latency with the OnePlus 5, and to do this it had engineers test the difference in scrolling between various devices, while also tracking screen movements using a high-speed camera so it could measure the touch latency on the path to actually improving. It also added a feature to OxygenOS that can help manage app performance by deprioritizing apps that aren’t used often and making sure they don’t affect the performance of the device and the operation of other apps. Apps that are used often are “ready to go” right when you turn the device on. OnePlus doesn’t elaborate any more on how this feature works or mention what the feature is called, but by sharing little bits of detail about the performance of the OnePlus 5 and the processor that will be used to run the device, OnePlus is moving closer to officially announcing the phone.
