The Samsung Gear Fit Pro fitness tracker and another unknown device dubbed the Samsung Gear POP could be unveiled as early as next week according to a new rumor. There are indications that the devices could be shown off at the Tizen Developer Conference that will be taking place in San Francisco on May 16 and 17, so there’s not long to go until there might be some concrete information on both devices. Back in January the giant tech company applied to the European Agency for Intellectual Property (EUIPO) for a trademark for the Samsung Gear Fit Pro, so this latest rumor of an unveiling of the device with model number SM-R365 very soon does seems credible.

Other than the fact the Gear Fit Pro will be some kind of wearable fitness band, little else is known about the device at this stage. However, there could be connections with the Simband health platform with cloud-based health tracking that Samsung first announced in 2014. At that time there were references to a proof-of-concept wearable device that would utilize this platform. The device would have an array of sensors, not used in existing health trackers, to collect and upload medical information. For example it would be capable of measuring different aspects such as oxygen levels, glucose levels, air quality, and body temperature, as well as  heart rate. Whatever the eventual confirmed specifications and features of the device it looks likely to be an advanced successor to the Samsung Gear Fit2 fitness tracker that released last year. The Gear Fit2 is equipped with a GPS sensor and heart rate monitor and can track calories burned, steps, distance, and more, and also different types of activities such as running, walking and cycling.

As well as this, another new Samsung device, the Gear POP with model number SM-R600, could also appear. However, at this point there is even less known about this product than the Gear Fit Pro. While this new rumor is certainly interesting, it’s worth pointing out that for now it should be treated with the proverbial shake of the salt pot, as Samsung has not detailed exactly what will be shown or discussed at the Tizen event next week. Hopefully though, there will be more news to come before too much longer.
