TWRP or TeamWin Recovery Project, has just released its custom recovery for a few new devices, many of which aren’t super popular, or even new, except for the Galaxy Note 8. The Snapdragon version of the Galaxy Note 8 had already gotten TWRP support, now the Exynos version of the Galaxy Note 8 is getting the same treatment. So those with the Galaxy Note 8 are going to be one step closer to rooting and ROMing their new devices. On top of the Galaxy Note 8, there were some other smartphones that got the treatment, including the Xiaomi Redmi 3S, Redmi 4A, ZUK Edge, and the Elephone P9000. All of which are available on TWRP’s website for download.

Using TWRP isn’t something that every user is going to do, in fact most users won’t be using TWRP. And that’s because it is really only needed when you root your device. TWRP is a custom recovery, which is used for replacing the stock recovery mode on your device. When rooting, you have to replace the recovery mode on the device, since the stock recovery mode won’t allow you to do anything that requires root (and for good reason). So it’s a necessary evil, so to speak. TWRP isn’t the only custom recovery out there, but it is by far the most popular one, now. TWRP allows the user to make a nanDROID backup of their device, as well as flash new ROMs, kernels and other goodies. It’s really only available for those that like to tinker with their smartphones.

Now, it’s also important to note that while it’s great to see TWRP available for these devices, they still need a method for root. And some smartphones do use a pretty complicated way for rooting, and this is to keep the majority of their users from doing so – as rooting does void the warranty for obvious reasons. So if the device does have root access, you can flash TWRP and have a pretty interesting custom recovery on your device, and get started tinkering away. TWRP does support a ton of devices – in fact it supports the majority of the ones on the market – all of which you’ll find at the link below.
