American subscription video on demand service, Hulu, has begun to roll out its new user interface and Live TV service to the newest model of Samsung’s smart TV based on the Tizen OS, the company announced on Monday. According to Richard Irving, Vice President of Product at Hulu, subscribers will be able to automatically gain access to the new experience once they open the upgraded Hulu app, provided they are using the 2017 Samsung smart TV models. The new Samsung smart TV also recently added support for the Amazon Music app, though it has not been made accessible in all territories where Amazon Music is available.
On top of the UI change and new feature, the Hulu app also now lets users create as many as six profiles, both for adults and kids alike, all of which will be able to access the latest content at any given time. For users who are paying for Hulu’s Live TV plan, there is an option to watch all of the service’s on-demand content such as Hulu Originals as well as more than 50 live sports, entertainment, news, and local TV shows. For $40 per month, customers can have access to the traditional Hulu service that consists of a wide selection of movies and TV shows through the Live TV service. Hulu also adds a new ability to personalize the way customers use its service through premium add-ons such as Showtime, HBO and Cinemax. With these premium add-ons, users will be able to remove commercial ads under the No Commercials plan, subscribe to its Cloud DVR or upgrade to unlimited screens.
In addition to the new Samsung Smart TVs, the new Hulu UI and Live TV feature are already available on Android devices, Chromecast, the fourth generation Apple TV, Roku devices, Xbox One, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, with Irving saying that the company intends to release the new experience to additional devices in the future. Last July, Hulu introduced its Live TV service and its redesigned app, along with the Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV set-top box, to the Amazon Fire TV platform. The new design allows for an easier way to navigate the app both on small and large screens.
