It seems like Huawei and Honor have started to roll out Android 8.0 Oreo-based Emotion UI (EMUI) to some of their devices, namely the Honor 9, Honor V9 and the Huawei P10 Plus. The Honor 9 is one of Honor’s most powerful smartphones, and the same can be said for the Honor V9, while the Huawei P10 Plus was the company’s flagship until the Mate 10 flagship smartphone series arrived.

Now, it’s worth noting that this update is currently rolling out to the Chinese versions of these three phones, following the Huawei Mate 9 series, which started receiving the update quite recently as well. Let’s start with the Honor-branded phones, shall we. The Honor 9 and V9 users who are running B322 of Android Oreo beta program have started receiving this update back on December 5, while all the rest of you who run a Chinese ROM on your Honor 9 or V9 have started to receive this update yesterday. Needless to say, you need to run the latest beta build of Emotion UI (EMUI), or the latest stable version of the OS in order to get the Android 8.0 Oreo update. This update will move you from EMUI 5.1 to EMUI 8, which is a version of Huawei’s and Honor’s OS that comes pre-installed on top of Android 8.0 Oreo.

As already mentioned, the Huawei P10 Plus users who are running a Chinese version of the software are now also getting this update, though you’ll need to be on the latest version of EMUI as well in order to get notified that the update is available. Huawei’s and Honor’s devices run basically the same software on top of Android, so it’s not that surprising that all those devices have started getting this update at the same time, more or less. EMUI is different than stock Android, but also quite similar to it in many ways. All the main Android 8.0 Oreo features do come as part of EMUI, though the UI looks quite a bit different than stock Android. As part of this update, you will be getting the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode, notifications dots, some updates to the phone’s UI, and so on. Some of Huawei’s very own features will also be included here, and the latest security patches as well.
