Google teamed up with a number of celebrities to launch a new feature of Search on Android and iOS, allowing users to receive responses to various questions about their favorite actors, musicians, comedians, and even chefs directly from those famous individuals, with the results being delivered in the form of short video messages. A dozen celebrities are participating in the initiative announced on Thursday, with Google’s list of partners involving everyone from Mark Wahlberg, Allison Williams, Seth MacFarlane, and Gina Rodriguez to Will Ferrell, Dominique Ansel, James Franco, and Priyanka Chopra. Nick Jonas is also participating in the program, as are Kenan Thompson, Jonathan Yeo, and Tracee Ellis Ross.
The feature itself is currently only available on mobile but is supported both by the browser version of Google Search and the actual Google app that can be downloaded on Android and iOS devices. Every celebrity that contributed to the project has a least half a dozen of video messages answering some of the most popular questions about themselves, with the functionality itself possibly taking inspiration from Wired’s popular “Autocomplete Interviews” that often went viral in the past. The questions answered by Hollywood stars are as varied as one would expect from celebrity-related searches, ranging from queries about Priyanka Chopra’s hair and Will Ferrell’s ability to speak Swedish to Seth MacFarlane’s love for musicals and Mark Wahlberg’s dominant hand. Apart from the most asked questions on the Internet, the celebrities that partnered with Google also answered some seemingly random inquiries related to things like the result of a theoretical fight between Wahlberg and Ferrell and the mechanics of kissing a person.
While typing specific questions that have a corresponding answer filmed by Google will propel the newly introduced clips directly to the top of your search results, simply searching for any of the aforementioned celebrities will let you scroll through all of their existing videos answering what Google deems are “top questions,” with this particular section being located immediately below their biography cards on the Search results page. The Mountain View, California-based tech giant said more similar partnerships are on the way, suggesting its list of celebrities personally answering the Internet’s many questions is likely to grow in the coming months.
