The Honor X series of Android mid-rangers surpassed 40 million global sales, Huawei’s subsidiary said Thursday. The new milestone for the Chinese brand was hit shortly after the release of the Honor 7X, its latest and most powerful such offering to date which has been widely lauded as one of the best value-oriented smartphones released over the course of this year. The handset sold 300,000 units in the first two hours of Honor’s Singles’ Day sale on Tmall, Alibaba’s online shopping platform and the largest service of its kind in the Far Eastern country. The original equipment manufacturer reiterated its commitment to continue delivering aggressively priced mid-rangers targeted at price-conscious consumers going forward, essentially confirming that the Honor 8X will be released in 2018.

The Honor 7X is the first mostly bezel-free addition to the lineup, having adopted a 5.93-inch display panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels amounting to an aspect ratio of 18:9, i.e. 2:1. This tall image format gained significant traction in the mobile industry over the course of the last 12 months and Honor once again decided to follow industry trends while still pursuing its ambition to deliver highly value-oriented handsets with the Honor 7X. Compared to the Honor 6X, its direct successor recorded twice as many sales following its international release two weeks ago and is likely to maintain that momentum going forward. The handset has also been enjoying an extremely positive response in India where it was subjected to three flash sales, with each one seeing 20,000 orders in a single hour, the company revealed.

Pre-orders for the Honor 7X in the United States were 250 percent larger compared to the ones for its predecessor, whereas its advanced orders in Russia grew by 300 percent. The consumer electronics manufacturer recently expressed some major ambitions and reiterated its desire to not be compared to its parent, stating that its brand is completely separate from that of Huawei. The company is also aiming to become one of the top five largest smartphone makers on the planet but it’s still unclear whether it has any plans to diversify its portfolio going forward, though mid-rangers are expected to remain the focus of its business.
