The Huawei Nova 2S has once again been exposed ahead of its official unveiling, this time in a short hands-on video which seems to reveal and confirm some of the smartphone’s hardware characteristics. According to the video, the upcoming Huawei device will be powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset which will be paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board memory. The display seems to carry a resolution of 2160 x 1080 resulting in an 18:9 aspect ratio, and last but not least, the smartphone runs the latest version of Huawei’s proprietary user interface, EMUI 8.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Huawei’s upcoming Nova 2S has been subjected to a variety of leaks and rumors over the past several weeks, including hands-on images with the device alone, as well as some side-by-side comparisons with the Honor V10 which seems to share many exterior design characteristics with the Nova 2S, except for the glossy finish employed by the latter. However, it appears that the Honor V10 is equipped with a more powerful chipset, namely the Kirin 970 as opposed to the Kirin 960. The former silicon is built on a 10nm FinFET+ process and offers eight CPU cores paired with a Mali-G72 MP12 (12-core) graphics chip, whereas the Kirin 960 was introduced a year ago and was manufactured on a 16nm FFC process while adopting a Mali-G71 MP8 (8-core) GPU. Having said that, it remains to be seen whether the two end up differing in some other aspects as well.

The official announcement of the Huawei Nova 2S is imminent as the device is scheduled for an unveiling on December 7th, so whatever details may have remained unknown until now will be uncovered soon enough. Availability for the Huawei Nova 2S could be limited to the Chinese market but on the other hand, the similar Honor V10 manufactured by Huawei’s subsidiary should have a wider release in Europe, India, and possibly the United States. Regardless, recent reports indicate that the Nova 2S will be priced at between 2,500 and 3,000 yuan, or the rough equivalent of $377 to $453, and should become available in a few color choices including white, black, and blue.
