Lenovo Star Wars: Jedi Challenges is truly the augmented reality experience that Star Wars fans have been waiting for, and all it takes is Lenovo’s $199 kit and a modern smartphone to get the job done.
Inside the box you’ll find the Lenovo Mirage Augmented Reality (AR) headset, Rey’s lightsaber from the movies, and a tracking beacon that changes colors. Lenovo publishes a list of phones recommended for use with the Jedi Challenges kit, and while these are certainly ones that are guaranteed to work with the experience, you may find more phones work just fine with it, so long as they have the horsepower to run the show. With an app from the Google Play Store or the Apple Appstore loaded on your phone, the display is then projected onto the lenses in the Mirage headset, looking as if projections of Stormtroopers, Darth Vader or a number of other famous Star Wars characters are right there in your living room to cut down at will.
While Lightsaber combat is certainly the highlight of the adventure, Lenovo is packing the $199 kit with plenty of other things to do as well. Practice your skills as a Jedi general by taking command of famous battles in Star Wars history with the Strategic Combat mode, which gives you the ability to directly command Clone armies, Jedi Knights, and countless other units to take down armies of Droids or Stormtroopers, to name a few. Would you rather do battle with a Wookie and take up the mantle of Holochess king? There’s plenty of Holochess challenges on each planet within the Lenovo Star Wars: Jedi Challenges game, and each of these planets serves up plenty of other challenges as well.
