Xiaomi is currently seeking Android 8.0 Oreo beta testers who use its Mi A1 smartphone to experiment with the beta version of the latest iteration of Google’s mobile operating system. Applications for the Android 8.0 Oreo Beta Program will close on December 11th, and applicants can expect to receive a private message via the Xiaomi MIUI Official Forum once they are picked for the beta testing initiative. Unlike the Mi 6 Android Oreo beta program announced a few days ago as a China-exclusive affair, the Mi A1 beta test is open to users from all parts of the world, with applicants only being required to speak English and use QQ to communicate with the company. Android 8.0 Oreo introduces better battery management, Notification Dots, Picture-in-Picture mode, and numerous other features meant to improve the end-user experience of compatible devices.
Mi A1 owners interested in participating in the beta testing must provide their 15-digit IMEI number to Xiaomi in a dedicated thread on the official MIUI forum linked below. For those who are wary about their privacy, Xiaomi guarantees that any IMEI information received by the firm will be kept confidential and will only be used for the purpose of sending the OTA update to beta testers. Also, for those who are not aware of their IMEI number, simply dial *#06# to find out two sets of IMEI numbers attached to your handset. Before proceeding with the application for the beta program, Mi A1 owners are required to download the MIUI Forum version 2.0.0 APK which weighs in at just over 15MB or download the app directly from the Google Play Store.
Once those steps are completed, navigate to the homepage of the app and tap the “Recruitment” tab which will present you with a form to fill and submit. Xiaomi says it will send a private message to applicants once the submission process is completed. Upon approval, Mi A1 owners must back up their files before downloading and installing the Android 8.0 Oreo beta. Just like any other beta program, the Android Oreo beta test for the Mi A1 is expected to be somewhat unstable so be aware of what you’re getting into if you’re adamant to try out new OS features as quickly as possible.
