Widely renowned as the most popular web browser, Chrome isn’t satisfied with its current product services and offerings. Google posted a press release today commending Chrome for its many accomplishments over the years, and especially in 2017. Over 262 million hours of video were viewed by Chrome users last year, including viral recordings and other various content experiences. From 360-degree videos to fully immersive virtual reality adventures, Chrome supports a host of opportunities including and well beyond surfing the web. Google recently developed and will soon release Article, an augmented reality program for web-based browsers, as well. According to the blog post, Chrome was able to not only support vast amounts of content, but with its data saver, it saved users roughly 200 petabytes of usage. An incredible feat, yet Google still has plans for 2018 and the future of its web browser.

Chrome already lets users view video in picture-in-picture (PiP) mode in order to watch content while multitasking. It also makes for a pleasant browsing experience by enabling users to mute websites from playing intrusive ads and videos in the background. This year, Google promises to soon let users control which sites can play content automatically. These and many more features will be available not only on desktop versions of the browser, but now they will be synchronized across mobile devices, as well. Other plans for later this year include, but are likely not limited to, official virtual reality web support, High Dynamic Range (HDR) across more platforms, and to even produce higher quality video while simultaneously using less data.

Google possesses a lot of positive energy as a corporation. The Californian company continues to impress by splicing new ideas with market needs and desires. However, many other browser developers are also stepping up their game to offer solutions and services to users.  As the competition advances, Google remains resolute to offer as many features for as little a footprint as possible. Chrome already stands as one of the fastest browsers for both mobile and desktop, and is the primary application on Google’s Chromebooks. As each update is released, Google intends to make Chrome even better.
