A new set of images that appeared online earlier this week is said to depict the final design of Sony’s upcoming Xperia XA2 Ultra. Sony launched the current Xperia XA1 Ultra back in February at MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Spain. Now, it looks as though the Japanese company is preparing to launch its successor, but the design changes appear to be relatively minimal.
Despite the recent trend of 18:9 displays, Sony looks to be sticking with the more traditional 16:9 aspect ratio for the Xperia XA2 Ultra. In terms of the front panel, the extremely thin side bezels are set to make a return, while Sony’s large top and bottom bezels are also present. Interestingly, though, Sony appears to have removed the dual front-facing speakers. Instead, the device likely includes a single bottom-firing speaker, situated near its USB Type-C port. The XA1 Ultra’s successor is also set to take advantage of some bokeh features by introducing two front-facing selfie sensors alongside a single LED flash. Moving on to the rear, this is where the biggest design changes look to have taken place. The rear camera setup has now been moved, this time being placed in the center of the panel, unlike the top-left corner placement that is traditionally seen on Sony devices. Sony also placed a rear-facing fingerprint sensor just below the camera, therefore moving away from its usual side placement. In terms of internals, nothing is confirmed as of yet, but rumors point toward a Snapdragon 630 being featured on the inside alongside 4GB of RAM. As well as this, the company is expected to include 64GB of internal storage.
As can be seen in the set of images, the device is also set to ship with Android 8.0 Oreo straight out of the box, though it may be updated to Android 8.1 shortly after its release. It’s currently unknown how Sony will price this device, but it will likely have a similar price tag to that of its predecessor at launch, meaning a price in the range of $399 is expected. Lastly, just like the Xperia XA1 Ultra, its 2018 successor is expected to make its debut at this year’s MWC in February.
