Huawei CEO has confirmed that the Chinese company is working on a new Huawei Watch. The company announced the original Huawei Watch back in March of 2015, with a follow-up device called the Watch 2 launching nearly two years later, in February 2017. In more recent times, Huawei has gone on to launch a Pro variant of its second-generation smartwatch, but info on the third device remains scarce. Richard Yu has now confirmed that the Watch 3 is coming, albeit not soon.
The CEO stated that the Huawei Watch 3 will “come later,” but also mentioned that the company is in no rush to bring out a new-generation product “because Huawei Watch 2 sells well.” Now, it’s worth noting that Yu made no specific mention of a launch timeframe, but it appears that the Huawei Watch 3 won’t make its debut until at least the end of this year, perhaps at IFA 2018, something that would also put it in direct competition with the expected launch of Apple’s Watch Series 4. Alternatively, Huawei could also choose to debut the device next year at CES 2019 or possibly even MWC 2019. In the meantime, the Shenzen, China-based company is focusing on the upcoming launch of its Huawei P20 lineup, a product the company anticipates will help it overtake Apple. After all, Yu expects Huawei to become the second largest smartphone manufacturer within a year or two, placing it behind only Samsung. In terms of what the Huawei P20 series will bring to the market, the devices are expected to feature metal-and-glass builds, along with new 18:9 displays, with at least one model possibly having a screen notch. Furthermore, the devices should put a heavy focus on artificial intelligence thanks to their dedicated neural processing units included as part of the Kirin 970 package, as was the case with the Mate 10 lineup.
In addition to all of this, the regular Huawei P20 is rumored to include a dual camera setup on the rear, made up of a regular 12-megapixel sensor and a secondary 16-megapixel monochrome module. On the other hand, the Huawei P20 Plus, or P20 Pro as it is sometimes called, will include the same camera setup, along with a third telephoto lens, which will also sport a 16-megapixel resolution, some insiders previously claimed. The two devices will launch March 27 at an event in Paris and will be accompanied by a mid-range alternative said to be advertised as the Huawei P20 Lite.
