Huawei’s upcoming P20 Lite will reportedly be marketed as part of the Nova lineup in certain markets. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has a history of rebranding certain devices in different markets, while its sub-brand Honor also dabbles in this territory by offering slightly redesigned Huawei devices under its own brand at a lower price point. Now, with Huawei’s P20 flagship lineup set to be unveiled next month, it appears the budget variant could be the next to be sold under a different moniker in certain markets.

According to Evan Blass, the company’s upcoming Huawei P20 Lite will also be known as the Huawei Nova 3e in certain markets, likely due to the stronger presence of the Nova branding. Internally and externally, though, the two devices are expected to be identical. This means Huawei’s new bezel-less design should be present, with the iPhone-like notch included. Furthermore, the new glass build is also set to be present, alongside a rear-facing fingerprint scanner and dual-cameras on both the front and rear. In terms of internal specifications, not much is known about the Huawei P20 Lite, however, it is expected to feature 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, alongside a homegrown octa-core Kirin processor. Not only this but in terms of software, the device is expected to ship with Android 8.1 Oreo straight out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 overlay on top. Regarding pricing and release of the device, Huawei’s device should go on sale at around the equivalent of $300 if the company decides to stick with its previous pricing strategy, while an official announcement is set for March 27. Considering the rumored design changes, though, the device could be moved up slightly into a higher market.

The P20 Lite is set to make its debut next month alongside the flagship P20 and P20 Plus, which, just like the budget-alternative, will bring the new bezel-less design, albeit with larger displays and a triple-camera setup on the rear. Moreover, the spec-sheet will likely include a dedicated neural processing unit due to a big focus on AI, and Huawei’s latest top-of-the-line Kirin 970 processor. Not to mention the possibility of 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, alongside support for microSD.
