Motorola's New Ad Seems Like Subtle Dig At Competing OEMs

At just 16-seconds in length, Motorola’s latest brand advertisement appears to make no qualms about what the company sees as a common issue in the mobile industry. In fact, it could easily be seen as an indirect dig at some of the Lenovo-owned company’s larger competitors, such as Samsung or Apple. That’s because, although it doesn’t appear to give away too many details about any specific devices, the sole message reads simply, “Better doesn’t always cost more.” Aside from that message, the ad is fairly straightforward. It shows two lines of identically dressed people being conveyed along separate sides of a water-filled channel in a bland setting. Their faces light up with a glowing Moto logo and the two sides converge at the symbol, breaking the zombie-like trance that their smartphones had held over them.

It bears mention that the message isn’t necessarily intended towards any specific manufacturer. Although the company could ultimately unveil something at MWC 2018 that is more well-built than competing devices, that isn’t necessarily likely. The message here could actually be meant to convey how much better its own new devices will be as compared to previous handsets while managing to avoid an increase in cost. Whatever the case may be, the company is expected to have a big presence at this year’s event with no fewer than three new smartphones. Unfortunately, all of the information surrounding those is speculative at best and that isn’t rumored to happen until the doors to the event officially open. So anybody interested in seeing exactly what Motorola is trying to say with the new advertisement is probably going to have to wait until tomorrow at the earliest.

With regard to expectations for Motorola’s event, the company has been postulated to be unveiling three variations on a new member to the Moto G family – namely, the Moto G6. Those are thought to include the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and the Moto G6 Play. The base model has been rumored to built around a 5.7-inch HD display, powered by Android 8.0 Oreo, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. That’s expected to be driven by a Snapdragon 430 SoC and a generous 4,000mAh battery. Meanwhile, a single 12-megapixel camera has been predicted for the back. The Moto G6 Plus would obviously be a larger handset and might feature a slight boost in specs – up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage – though details about the specs aren’t exactly clear at this point. Finally, the company is expected to take the wraps off of a Moto G6 Play edition device. As the name implies, that would most likely feature the same specs as one of the other models but would run a stock variation of Google’s Android OS.
