HMD Global took to this year’s iteration of Mobile World Congress to announce five new devices, including a revised version of the Nokia 6 (2018) which originally launched in China early last month. The new model that’s now coming to the West is being released as part of Google’s Android One program meant to showcase the advantages of stock Android. The Nokia 6 (2018) is hence set to run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, together with support for Project Treble which should allow the company to additionally accelerate its process of developing and distributing monthly security patches for the device.

The Nokia 6 (2018) features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen with an FHD resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels amounting to a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. The handset will be available in two variants, with the base model offering 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal flash memory, whereas the more premium version will double on that storage space and ship with 4GB of RAM. A microSD card slot is also part of the package, supporting up to 128GB of additional memory. While the 2017 Nokia 6 came with a Snapdragon 400-series chip, the new handset boasts Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630, thus seeking to compete in the upper mid-range market segment. A camera setup using a 16-megapixel sensor and a Karl Zeiss-made f/2.0 lens with phase detection autofocus support resides on the back of the smartphone with a dual-LED flash, whereas its top bezel accommodates an 8-megapixel sensor mounted behind a lens with an aperture of f/2.0. The smartphone supports NFC connectivity, has a USB Type-C 2.0 port, rear-mounted circular fingerprint reader, and a 3,000mAh battery, as well as a headphone jack. The Nokia 6 (2018) is 148.8 x 75.8 x 8.15mm in size and will start retailing in April, priced at €279 ($343) in Europe, thus being slightly more expensive than its notably weaker predecessor.

HMD also announced the Nokia 8110 4G, a reimagined version of the popular 1996 “banana phone” with a slide cover protecting its physical T9 keyboard. The curved handset has a 2.4-inch color screen, FM radio, 2-megapixel camera, and its own app store with a number of popular services such as Facebook. The latest retro offering from the Finnish company is capable of serving as a 4G tethering device and has a battery that’s advertised as being capable of lasting up to 20 days on a single charge. The Nokia 8110 4G will be released in April, priced at €79 ($97) in Europe.
