Sony has been showing off its Xperia Ear concept at previous trade shows for the past year or so. Now at Mobile World Congress 2018, the device is no longer a concept and is going to become a commercial product, with sales beginning in May, and it’s going to cost $279. The Xperia Era Duo, as it is called now, these are basically truly wireless headphones, but taken up a notch. The Xperia Ear Duo comes with two earpieces, one for each ear. And it sits in your ear, and comes around the back of your ear. It uses Acoustic Conductor technology to provide audio in your ears, but by using this technology, it is allows the user to still hear what’s going on around them. The reasoning for this is, if you are using these while walking down the street, you want to be able to hear things around you like cars.
The Xperia Ear Duo is a rather interesting pair of headphones here, with it going under your ear instead of over it. Now the not-surprising feature here is that it has the Google Assistant included here. Now it’s not actually in the headphones, but through Bluetooth when connected to your smartphone. So you may experience a slower reaction time from Google Assistant with the Xperia Ear Duo. There are four mics included on the Xperia Ear Duo, so you don’t actually need to speak to loudly to get the Google Assistant’s attention, and it allows the Xperia Ear Duo to actually hear you, especially in a crowded area. These were made to look sleek and really disappear, especially if you have long hair, so that others won’t even know you have headphones in.
With the Xperia Ear Duo, Sony hasn’t given out a whole lot of information here, other than the fact that it’s going to be on sale in May, with a price tag of $279. That is actually not too bad of a price for the Xperia Ear Duo. It’ll likely be available at the usual retailers that carry Sony products, like Amazon, Best Buy, B&H Photo and of course Sony’s own online store. As we get closer to May, Sony should be releasing the specific date for availability for the Xperia Ear Duo.
