T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will launch on March 16 with pre-orders beginning on march 2, following Samsung’s official announcement of the device today at its Galaxy Unpacked event during Mobile World Congress 2018. The carrier will sell three of the four colors that Samsung has produced including the Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple, with the Titanium Gray being an exclusive color to outside of the U.S., at least for now, though it’s always possible that Samsung could bring more colors to the U.S. and other regions at some point in the future.
When the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus hit the market, consumers will be looking at spending $720 for the Galaxy S9, and $840 for the Galaxy S9 Plus. This is not just due to the difference in screen size this year as it was with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus from 2017. With these two new phones, Samsung has made some slight changes and has equipped the Galaxy S9 Plus with some better hardware specs, like more RAM, which is 6GB compared to the 4GB on the Galaxy S9. It’s also got the larger display, a bigger battery, and two camera sensors on the back as opposed to just one. In addition to the full retail costs, T-Mobile will also offer both phones on EIP payments of $30 a month, with the Galaxy S9 Plus having a $150 down payment. There are also some trade-in promotions running. If you purchase either phone on the EIP plan you’ll be able to get up to $360 off the price when you trade in your older smartphones.
Those who want the more standard experience would benefit from picking the Galaxy S9 as it’s not only less expensive but it would also be more in line with what they’re looking for. For those that want a little more power and performance out of their device, the Galaxy S9 Plus with the 6GB of RAM and the two rear cameras will get better pictures, as it has an adjustable aperture, though both devices will come powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor, so when it comes to computing power both phones should be mostly on the same level. Though pre-orders start on March 2 and the launch happens two weeks later, it’s always possible that T-Mobile could end up shipping the phones out to buyers early as this has happened before with other phones. That said, there’s no guarantee that T-Mobile will ship early but it is likely, even if it’s only by a couple of days.
