A new fan-made concept render envisions Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9. The number one smartphone manufacturer only recently released its Galaxy S9 lineup globally, with the new smartphones putting a heavy emphasis on their cameras thanks to the variable aperture sensor that is included. And now, a new concept render of the company’s next flagship shows off a device that puts an even bigger focus on the camera department.
Beginning with the overall look of the device, the fan-made smartphone adopts a slightly less rectangular design than last year’s Galaxy Note 8, while reducing the bezels on the front to a minimum. Furthermore, the device retains the glass and metal construction that has been associated with Samsung since 2015. Interestingly, though, it doesn’t sport a fingerprint sensor on the rear as with the company’s recent flagships. Instead, the concept envisions a device with an in-display fingerprint scanner that is placed towards the bottom of the display. Moving on to the rear, the area that is no longer occupied by the fingerprint sensor has been reassigned to a new third camera sensor, which could be either a new wide-angle sensor or monochrome one that should help the South Korean giant better compete with Huawei’s upcoming P20 Pro that is set to boast a triple camera sensor on the rear. In either case, the third sensor on the Galaxy Note 9 render accompanies a main, variable aperture camera and a secondary telephoto lens. Another interesting design feature is the use of multiple tiny LED lights positioned on either side of the camera module that likely replace the typical dual-tone LED flash in the hope of providing significantly better artificial lighting. Lastly, as with the company’s previous flagships, this particular Galaxy Note 9 render also boasts a heart rate monitor just below the camera sensors and a dedicated Bixby button on the side.
Samsung is yet to confirm any official details surrounding the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, but with both the Galaxy Note 7 and Note 8 making their respective debuts in August, it seems likely that Samsung will continue this trend with its next device. Nonetheless, it’ll remain to be seen if Samsung does choose to implement a third sensor in the hope of competing with Huawei, or if the company will deem the extra sensor unnecessary. In the meantime, though, the only trace of the device’s existence is a recent “Note 9” name trademark in Colombia.
