Honor USA has just announced, via Twitter, that the company has started pushing out Android 8.0 Oreo Beta update for the Honor 7X. This update will roll out over-the-air (OTA) to users who decided to join the company’s beta program. This update is rolling out to beta testers along with a March 1 security patch, in case you were wondering. You can check if the update is available for your device, presuming you signed up to become a beta tester, by navigating to Settings, System menu and tapping on the ‘System Update’ option.

The Honor 7X is not the first Honor-branded smartphone to get Android 8.0 Oreo, as some other devices already received it, so we pretty much knew what to expect. This update brings the Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.0 skin along with it, which is Huawei’s proprietary skin for Huawei and Honor devices. Emotion UI 8.0 actually includes pretty much all Oreo features (plus some Huawei ones), though the UI looks a bit different than stock Android, even though the difference is not anywhere near what it used to be before, since Nougat-based EMUI started rolling out last year, EMUI as a whole looks a lot more like stock Android. This update will bring a new floating Navigation dock your way, while the company also introduced a number of AI-based optimizations which should improve stability and fluidity of the UI. The Settings menu has been redesigned in EMUI 8.0, while the Gallery app now features a recycle bin which will be a home to your photos for 30 days after you delete them.

Some battery-related optimizations are also introduced with this update, while the UI is slightly changed here and there, though it looks mostly like Nougat-based Emotion UI 5.0 and 5.1. Honor introduced a number of other changes with this update, you can check out the changelog down below. The Honor 7X was originally announced in December last year, and the device sports a 5.93-inch fullHD+ display, while it comes in both 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. The phone is fueled by the Kirin 659 64-bit octa-core processor, while a 3,340mAh non-removable battery is also included in the package.
