Motorola’s upcoming Moto G6 and Moto E5 families have been certified in some Asian markets. The Lenovo-owned American brand has had a pretty successful run with its Moto G and E smartphone lines since their respective launches in 2013 and 2014. And now, the company’s next-generation models have received a number of certifications, hinting at their future launches. Beginning with the Moto G6 series, the new lineup is set to include three devices, the regular Moto G6, the slightly larger Moto G6 Plus, and the budget-friendly Moto G6 Play.
These devices, which go by the model numbers XT1925-7, XT1926-5, and XT1922-1 respectively, have all received their official certifications in both Indonesia and Thailand via the TKDN and the NBTC. Furthermore, it appears Motorola has also recently requested a certification for its Moto G6 Play variant in Malaysia, which also looks to have been granted. In addition to the Moto G6 lineup, the company’s budget Moto E5 (XT1924-3) has also paid a visit to the TKDN in Indonesia alongside its cheaper sibling, the E5 Play, which itself has also received regulatory approval in Thailand. Interestingly, though, the previously-leaked Moto E5 Plus was a no-show, so perhaps the company could be reserving this device for a later launch. In either case, both the Moto E5 and Moto G6 lines are set to debut with a new glass and aluminum builds, adorned with large 18:9 displays and shipping with Android 8.0 Oreo on board, meaning support for Project Treble will also be included.
In terms of a potential release date, nothing has been confirmed by the company as of yet, but considering the high number of recent regulatory certifications that the devices have been receiving, an official announcement shouldn’t be too far away. Motorola, which recently laid off a large portion of its staff, is yet to confirm the existence of either smartphone series, but recent rumors point towards the Chicago-based company putting more focus on the devices than ever before. After all, the follow up to last year’s Moto X4 has reportedly been scrapped in favor of promoting the more established Moto E and G lines, not to mention the flagship Moto Z lineup, which will likely be updated towards the beginning of the summer.
