Samsung took the wraps off of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus smartphones at Mobile World Congress, its next round of flagship devices. Pre-orders for these new smartphones opened today. So if you’ve been looking to pick up the Galaxy S9 or the Galaxy S9 Plus, you can now do so. Both smartphones are available from all four US carriers – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile – as well as Samsung and B&H Photo. The pre-order at B&H Photo will likely last longer than the carriers, seeing as it is selling an unlocked model, and that model usually launches far later than the carrier variants.
The Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch Infinity Display, similar to the Galaxy S8, with the same 1440×2960 resolution. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, and 4GB of RAM. Samsung has 64GB of storage available, along with a micro SD card slot for expanding storage, if needed. On the camera-front, there is a single camera on the back of the Galaxy S9 at 12-megapixels, and a 8-megapixel front-facing sensor. Finally, there is a 3000mAh non-removable battery included, along with Android 8.0 Oreo on-board. The Galaxy S9 Plus is similar, with a lot of specs, though it has a larger 6.2-inch Infinity Display, with the resolution of 1440×2960. It also runs on the Snapdragon 845 processor, but has 6GB of RAM included instead of the 4GB of RAM on the smaller Galaxy S9. It also has a larger battery at 3500mAh, and dual 12-megapixel cameras on the backside with an f/1.6 aperture and a f/2.4 aperture respectively, versus one camera.
AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon all have pre-orders open right now, with them slated to ship on March 16th. Samsung.com will also be shipping its units on March 16th. The carriers are offering up different promotions to get users to switch to the new Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus. Which include trading in your existing smartphone for credit on one of these new devices. The trade-in credit goes all the way up to as much as $350. Which can make a decent dent in the price of the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus. Speaking of pricing, the Galaxy S9 is priced at $719 and the Galaxy S9 Plus is $839.
